Cause I Can...

Shopping is my drug.  I've never denied that I'm an addict.  In fact, I've always embraced it in a way. I mean I'm Style Addicted.  And I must say, I think I do a damn good job of keeping my shopping habit under control.  My bills are paid and money is saved.  That may just be due to the fact that I earn a good salary that I can afford the luxury of spending... but that will soon change.

With my plans of goingto law school in 2 years it would make sense to save since I don't plan to work.  But who likes doing that??

You see shopping is my reward.  It motivates me to keep going.  A pat on the back for a job well done.  Why the pat on the back for doing what I should you ask (since I know you will ask)? Because it's not my parent's world anymore where my rewards are controlled.  To put it simply... because I can! Who can tell me no? I already save money.  Saving more... I'll get to that.  But today, I'll be at Sephora, Zara and Bloomingdales stocking up my closet for the fall. *snap*

I'm On YouTube... Finally!!

So I finally did it! I have been thinking about this for almost 2 years and last night I made my first video for YouTube. Of course I have to edit it and get it down to 10 minutes so it's not up yet. What took me so long you ask? Well I had been spending so much time focusing on how to make the best intro and what my videos will be about and I kept getting stuck because I didn't want to limit myself but I didn't want to be to broad either.

Well, while going through this tug of war with myself, I saw a video on YouTube from a YouTuber named GregoryGorgeous that I love and follow because he is one of the most hilarious and vulgar people I watch on there.  He did a video about his YouTube story and in it his advice to people who want to start a YouTube channel was not to think about it too much because if you do you'll never do it.  Don't worry about how it sounds or making it perfect... just do it.

So that's what I'm doing. My first video is just a way for my viewers to meet me.  I hope to have it posted up by the end of the weekend and I know it's supposed to go through an approval phase before YouTube will put it up. In any case look out for that! You can check out my YouTube channel here.

Fall is in the Air

Fall is my favorite time of year.  I used to think it was spring but after some thought... yea it's definitely fall.  I love the weather change from hot to cool but that's not even the biggest reason.  The most important thing about this season is the release of the fall collections and fashion week!! Yes, this is absolutely the best season for shopping.

Usually around this time of year I lack the funds to do the kind of damage I would like (which is probably why I used to like spring more lol) but this year even after taking a number of vacations this summer and shopping more than I probably should have *guilty look* I've managed to still have some $$$ to spend on my fall wardrobe.

The best thing about the fall collections that differ from the spring collections is the variety.  There are more textures to choose from and mix together. I've always loved the concept of layering which is hard to do in the spring and summer seasons, unless you like being hot as hell.

Looking at the blogs lately and the videos and photos from Fashion Week Sping 2011, everyone is already starting to bring out some of their fall looks at the evening shows when the weather is more cool.

   I saw this photo of Solange at fashion week while looking at the YBF Blog and really liked her look.  I don't normally like white dresses but I'm feeling this.  I especially love big knits. I think I'm going to do a remake of this look and see how I can make it my own.  It will surely be different but very classy and simply put together like her look.  But first I have to find a big knitted grey sweater like this one. I guess now I have to go shopping *innocence* lol.

Eclipse Review

Wednesday night my fellow Twilight Saga Obsessed co-workers went to see Eclipse.  We are so corny for leaving work early just so we could beat traffic to see this movie lmao! But for those of you who are fans of the books, I'm sure you understand. I can't lie about the fact that I feel silly for being so in love with these books for teens when I'm no longer one, but after seeing a teen girl being escorted to the movie with a group of at least 4 women in their 40s.... that feeling subsided.  As if she really needed all of you to come with her for a PG-13 film *side-eye* but to each their own. I'm not mad at you.

Any way on to the review. This will not be a spoiler for those of you who haven't seen it yet. Instead it is just a quick post to tell you how much I loved it.  Like the other films the movie was very close to the book and most scenes were just as you pictured them if you read the book. The fighting scenes where better than the previous films (and so was the makeup).  Bella was just as annoying as she was in the Eclipse novel (can't you just smack her sometimes) and Jacob (Taylor) was even more buff than in New Moon. I'm ashamed of myself for looking at that young man that way but.... what can I say?  All around it was a great film.

But if we can talk about the author for a minute.  The one thing that I love the most about Stephenie Meyer is the fact that her writing is so descriptive without being over worked. Ya know what I mean? Have you ever read a book that went on for pages setting up the scene? It can be too much because all you want is more action.  I love her writing style! It's like everyone is seeing the same thing (which is rare in most novels).

After seeing the movie, I have really been inspired to write more often.  Not just for this blog but personally.  In any case, I hope the motivation sticks.  For those of you who haven't seen the movie, if you don't have plans for Independence weekend, check it out.

My Time is Now

 I've noticed that every semester my personal life gets so chaotic.  I won't lie, most of it is my fault.  I become so focused that everything else kind of falls by the wayside. The thing about this realization is... I'm okay with it.

For the past eight years I've worked so hard to get my career on track.  It's taken years but I've finally figured out the right formula, and because of that I'm not willing to sacrifice my goals.

The thing of it is, I've always been a career oriented person. I've never been "that girl" who was thinking about getting married and having kids. I mean don't get me wrong, I do want those things and I have gotten caught up or even distracted in some relationships but those are things I'm willing to let happen it its own time. I'm not actively pursuing them like I am my career.

So when I don't have time to hang out with friends, that's okay with me. If they're my real friends that will understand. It's not as if I will never get together with them. Sometimes I don't have time to clean my place and on occasions I send all my laundry to the dry cleaners because I don't have time to wash them. These are all temporary situations because once the semester is over everything is semi-normal.

Some may say that I'm selfish and maybe I am. So! Isn't that what your 20s are for? To focus on yourself and building towards your future. When i get into my thirties I can focus on marriage and having babies. Until then I'm going to stick to what I'm doing which is laying the foundation to an empire.

The other day I stopped by Bloomingdales in an attempt to find a dress for my birthday dinner. Well I didn't find my dress there. I actually found a really nice dress from Bebe which I tweeted on my birthday that was on 4/24.

This dress here I ended up buying anyway and planning on wearing to the annual boat ride in NYC that my family had every year. It was extra money that I didn't plan on spending. I guess I should at least take appreciation in the fact that I do have somewhere to wear it. And trust me it will get worn many times Michelle O style.

It's Time for a Makeover

In the past few months I have really let myself go in the fashion department and I am so mad at myself :o. I am usually the fashionista! Hair done, nails done... I'm always on top of these things. But truth be told I haven't had a pedicure in months or my nails for that matter, all though I kinda have an excuse for that but not a good one.

I have become a busy girl. Working hard at my job hoping that it will get me a promotion, not to mention the fact that I am going to school full-time. I have also started playing the piano again (hence my nails not being done... I said it wasn't a good one) and I'm doing volunteer with my teen group. What I was thinking in order to make myself believe that I could work full-time and go to school full-time along with everything else I've now added to my agenda... who knows. But in the process, I've gotten lazy.

Recently, I started into a new relationship which is the WORST time to let yourself go. I don't wear makeup, I'm in sweats all the time. I mean it's gross and I'm sure it will become a turn off. Right now it's still new, so he just enjoys my company but that will get old fast. In other words, I need a solution. And of course I've thought of one! What better way to get out of a rut than to go shopping and give yourself a makeover.

Every year (around tax return time d-;) I go on a big shopping trip. Seeing that this is obviously a desperate time, I have decided to do a full out makeover. I want to change my wardrobe and update my makeup and skincare.

In the past year I have gained (more) weight and nothing fits anymore. I barely have anything to wear to work. In the summer I usually don't have anything to wear because I don't really shop for summer clothes. It's just not my most favorite season shopping wise. I prefer the warm, cozy, structured, well tailored pieces from the fall season. But, I need to go shopping for summer clothes this year. I need to update my wardrobe with some dresses and shorts and skirts. I really want to get some nice things that I can wear to work and wear out.

So this is the task, I will give you guys an update as to what I add and of course what I take out. My closet will definitely have to be cleaned out. I have a lot of good things but if I'm going to be changing my image up a little bit some of those things have to go. Some of my pieces will be donated but I will also sell some others. Of course I will post pictures from my shopping trip and items that I will be selling. I hope that I will be able to get out and go shopping this weekend. I don't want to this to be one big shopping trip so I will be doing this over time. I'm so excited!!

Happy Belated New Year

Hi Everyone!!

I know I've been gone for what seems like forever. OMG!!! So much has happened in the past 2 months from the holidays with the family, meeting my nephew for the first time, a new relationship, the tragedy in Haiti, my dog Eva getting pregnant and having puppies. I know it's been that loong. Last time I posted I didn't even know she had been knocked up LOL!

I celebrated birthdays but unfortunately a life was also lost during my time away. I lost a cousin which has devastated my family. Please keep us in your prayers. I'm trying to keep my spirit up and look at this as a celebration of life and not mourn his death.

I thought that when the semester ended I would be able to post more but you know how new relationships are....*blink* *wink*

I have been having fun and enjoying the winter break off from school. Just trying to relax and clear my mind be for the next semester starts. I start the spring semester next week and I'm taking on a FULL load. I hope that I will still have the time to post *sigh* I promise I will do everything that I can not to leave you guys out. I WILL K.I.P. I have tons of pictures from the numerous events and I will post them in the coming weeks along with new topic.

Serving Our Communities

So here is what's been going on lately. For the past month or so I have been looking for a opportunity that I could get involved with on a volunteer basis. I went on this great sight called VolunteerMatch.com where you can search for volunteer opportunities in your area. I found a great match as a Youth Leader for a organization that raises awareness of violence and abuse among teens called TAVA (Teens Against Violence and Abuse).

This group is mainly made up of teens ages 13 -17 and as a youth leader my job would be to guide them with their ideas and concepts and help them in making it a reality. I can imagine that it will be a lot of work and will take a lot of dedication and I am so ready for it. I haven't found out if I have the position yet but I am crossing my fingers. If I don't get it I would still like to be involved with this organization because the work that they are doing there is amazing. I think this will be an exciting opportunity. 

If there are any teens located in the Maryland/DC area who are interested in joining the group please contact me and I can get you more information. This is a great chance to get any last minute community service hours and to be a part of a great cause.
